LifeFlight Maintenance Facility - December 2024

On 8th August, 2024, LifeFlight’s new $26 million maintenance facility at Brisbane’s Archerfield Airport was officially opened.

Dubbed the Clive Berghofer Maintenance Centre, the 5000m² facility is the largest maintenance base in LifeFlight’s network and the largest hangar at Archerfield, replacing the old LifeFlight maintenance centre built in the 1940s.

The facility features four large bays for LifeFlight’s AW139 helicopters and Challenger 109 jets; office, kitchen and shower facilities for more than 30 staff; and space for aircraft to land, manoeuvre, refuel, and take off.

The Clife Berghofer Maintenance Centre can house up to nine helicopters and one jet, compared to just four helicopters at the old facility; In 2024, LifeFlight operates 19 helicopters and four jets.

According to LifeFlight Australia COO Lee Schofield, the new facility is “a key part” of the aeromedical organisation’s growth.  LifeFlight’s helicopters and jets undergo around 41,000 hours of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance every year.

“Every LifeFlight aircraft is rotated through the maintenance facility for major inspections as well as work that cannot be performed at other bases, making the LifeFlight Clive Berghofer Maintenance Centre the epicentre of our maintenance operation,” he said.

Cleanequip was approached to see if we could assist the LifeFlight organisation to maintain the cleanliness of this new facility to allow the tight maintenance schedules to be met.

Each aircraft needs to be totally stripped apart, inspected and rebuilt at least once every year to maintain operational flight status.

We were pleased to be able to provide the Karcher KM70/20C floor sweeper and the Karcher BD50/70R Bp floor scrubber to provide a solution to their cleaning needs.

Our Karcher machines were able to provide the productivity that is crucial to clean this facility and allow them to maintain the airworthiness of the fleet.
